Sandi Hoover, RN, Co-Owner

Yoga/Reiki/Pre/Post Natal Services

Sandi is grateful to offer many modalities in her role as healer through yoga, Nia, Reiki and community. Her journey as a Registered Nurse, wife and mom led her to co-create The Family Tree in 2008.

Sandi first found yoga in 2000 as a way to balance stress with relaxation and exercise. She began teaching yoga in 2001 and completed Vinyasa Power Yoga Teacher Training with Baron Baptiste. She is currently completing Registered Yoga Teacher Training to become a Certified Yoga Wellness Coach through James Miller Yoga. A life-long love of dance guided Sandi to Nia. Nia taught her healing through movement and she became a certified Nia instructor in 2004.

Pregnancy deepened her life in so many rich ways - one of her favorites being Reiki, which she first received in 2005. This experience illuminated the path to becoming a Teaching Reiki Master. She now offers Reiki sessions and classes to all.

Sandi felt a calling to bring prenatal yoga to Des Moines after the birth of her first son. She completed training in 2007 and now instructs Wholebirth Prenatal and Support Classes. This experience further fueled her passion for working with the prenatal community and guided her to offer the Metro's first Blessingway Celebration for Expectant Women. She loves encompassing many of her passions at The Family Tree.

Zach Hoover, LMT, Co-Owner

Massage Coordinator

Born in 1972, I was Midwest raised and Midwest schooled. Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa—I relate to the people, I love the seasons. I feel blessed for the life I am living.

My first job was as a busboy in a neighborhood restaurant. Dishwasher, prep cook, cook, manager, sous chef, chef, executive chef all followed. Food was and is a passion. Restaurant life, however, took its toll through long hours and stress. Seeking relief and looking to unwind led me to a massage table, planting a seed of what was to come.

In 2002 I began my massage career journey as I searched for another way to use my hands, spark my creativity and provide something memorable. A week into classes, I knew I had made the right choice. My training inspired me so much that I also taught for five years at the college I attended. I have taken a variety of continuing education classes covering a variety of modalities. I have been most strongly pulled towards work with the connective tissue (myofascial release) and its relation to overall health, but enjoy combining all my knowledge to create the best massage I can for my clients.

Flash forward to now—I still love what I do. I love going to work. I have the good fortune to own a business with my wife. I am able to see my family a lot and being a dad is one of the greatest things ever. I am grateful my path has led me here and I feel fortunate to touch so many people’s lives.

She is constantly reading or taking advanced classes about skincare and keeping updated on the most current trends in skincare, body waxing, body treatments, and products. Sarah Masengarb, Yoga Instructor

As a recent transplant from Iowa City, I am thrilled & humbled that Des Moines and the Family Tree have welcomed me with open arms! My first exposure to yoga was in 1999, when a friend and I decided to join a class while attending college at the University of Iowa. The class, led by a couple who studied & trained in Mumbai, India, made quite an impact and I was amazed at how my yoga practice welcomed such focus, mindfulness, contentment, and appreciation both on and off the mat. It is my intent as a teacher to inspire exploration and invite transformation through body, breath, and meditation.

In June of 2010, I completed a 200-hour level Hatha yoga certification through Tree House Yoga in Iowa City with James Miller. It was during my training at Tree House Yoga that I developed an interest and passion for Yoga Therapy and working one on one with individuals who are interested in developing a home practice that is designed with their particular needs and goals in mind.

I am also currently enrolled at Body Wisdom School of Massage Therapy in Urbandale and look forward to expanding my career in wellness.
